Ideal for Flying Club, Training organisation
or Pilot wishing to keep current in 'instrument practice'.
Flight
Simulator Access in Scotland for IMC or Instrument Rating currency
practice.
As
a Commercial Pilot with an Instrument Rating I found access to
a flight simulator expensive & not always convenient.
I
personally found 'flying' a sim was more 'by the numbers' than
is the case in an aircraft (no seat of the pants feel),
mainly
as I had never trained on a modern sim & all of my own previous
IR renewals were on a company aircraft.
With
Major Airport/ATC cut backs, 'Air time' & 'Sim time' becoming
increasingly difficult
I
decided to purchase a complete 'Elite pro' P1 - 135 flight simulator
system complete with seperate Radio/Auo Pilot/Navs/GPS stack.
(as
FAA cleared in the States for Pilot Instrument Flight Testing).

Here for an example print out - this was departing Dundee Rnwy
10 into & round the hold once then a procedural ILS to land
I
have installed it into its own 'cockpit environment' area
Most
of the aircraft on this system have a moving map display adjacent
to the main IF panel
therefore
self monitering of situational awareness is easy & helpful
with regards to what is happening during a flight/procedure.
I
think this is an ideal step before booking an CAA Approved flight
Simulator
or
CAA Examiner's time.
As
my own IF flying is now considerably less since retiring from
AOC Charter work I found the time practising potential routes
and approach techniques saved me a fortune in aircraft hire on
my most recent renewal !
With
a full UK Database all types of IFR approaches/Sids are available
plus the optional UK scenery pack also added
-
it is linked to printer therefore a record of approach attempts
inc. ILS profile is also possible - .
All
types of weather can be programmed in as you require with very
realistic minimums vis (better encountering here than
for real if not current).
Aircraft
available currently on the system are :-
Singles:-
Cessna 172R, Cessna 182S, Cessna 182RG, Piper Archer 111, Mooney
M20J,
Piper
Arrow 1V, Beech Bonanze A36, Socata TB10, Socata TB20
Multi
Engine (twins) :- Beech Baron 58 & Seneca 111
Beech King Air 200 sim now up & running
£40.00
per hour (familiarisation tutorial is included)
